Rendering of 'The Legacy', a new affordable housing development in Westchester, Los Angeles.
Los Angeles has approved a new affordable housing complex named ‘The Legacy’ in Westchester. This development will include 174 apartment units, with 32 designated as affordable housing for low and very low-income families. Residents will benefit from modern amenities and a community-focused design. As Westchester sees more growth, this project signifies a positive shift in providing essential housing options in the area, benefiting those most in need.
Los Angeles is buzzing with news as the Department of City Planning has just approved a brand-new proposal for a housing complex that promises to bring some much-needed affordable options to the area. That’s right, the bustling community of Westchester is about to see a transformation at the corner of 5201 W. Knowlton Street and 6865 S. La Cienega Boulevard.
The new complex will be named The Legacy, and it will feature a total of 174 apartment units aimed at accommodating a diverse range of lifestyles. From cozy studios to spacious three-bedroom apartments, there’s something for everyone. And for those looking for affordable options, you’ll be glad to hear that 32 of these apartments will be designated as affordable housing—making it a great opportunity for residents who may be struggling to find housing within their budgets.
Out of the total affordable units, 23 will be set aside for very low-income households, while 9 will cater to low-income renters. This focus on affordability aligns with the growing demand for housing that doesn’t break the bank. Thanks to California Assembly Bill 1287, which encourages developments that include deeper affordability components, “The Legacy” is able to take advantage of state density bonus incentives, allowing it to exceed existing zoning laws in both size and number of units. That’s a win-win for everyone!
Before “The Legacy” can rise, the existing buildings on the site will be demolished to make way for this new development. This is a common practice in urban developments as older structures are replaced with stronger and more efficient homes that serve the community better. What’s exciting is that the complex will also include 193 parking spaces— a real blessing for residents who rely on their vehicles.
Designed by the talented Vanos Architects, the project will feature attractive four- and five-story buildings that fit right into the fabric of the neighborhood. Residents will benefit from an array of on-site amenities, like shared community spaces and landscaped courtyards. These enhancements are sure to foster a friendly and inviting atmosphere for all who live there!
This approval is part of a larger trend of increasing residential developments in Westchester, which has become a highly desirable area for both families and young professionals. In fact, just recently, another mixed-use development featuring 489 units was approved by Cityview in this very same neighborhood. With new projects sprouting up, it’s clear that Westchester is on the rise!
The addition of “The Legacy” and similar projects signals a positive change for the community. Not only does it create housing options for those who need them the most, but it also enhances the overall vibrancy of the Westchester area. As more housing developments find their footing, it promises to revitalize the neighborhood and ensure that the growing demographic is well taken care of.
With the approval of “The Legacy,” Los Angeles shows that it is committed to providing affordable housing solutions for all its residents. The project is set to positively impact the community and serve as a model for future developments in the city. For those looking for affordable living in a prime location, stay tuned, because Westchester is about to become even more appealing!
